He is perhaps best known for his macabre themes, but he was involved in many other things. Much of his work involves scary ideas. He writes well and while his
writing is superior to many others, he focuses on themes which tend to frighten readers. This is his trademark. One may think of Poe as a horror writer and they
would not be wrong. Like Stephen King, Edgar Allen Poe has been scaring readers for decades. However, one would be negligent not to include his other types of writing when
discussing his expertise. Poe appears to be a very talented mystery writer too. It is important for a student to note that when evaluating themes that Poe concentrates on,

based such as Sherlock Holmes and Miss Marple. With his Monsieur C. Auguste Dupin, Poe created a character type that would come to be copied time and time again.
