an increase in the number of middle-aged women suffering from eating disorders, such as anorexia. Traditionally, this type of disease has been confined to the young, particularly teenage girls,
and studies of the problem have revolved around this age group. Now, women in their 40s, 50s, 60s and older are being diagnosed with these life-threatening conditions, and experts
say it is becoming a "significant" problem. After a brief introduction, the main section of the paper discusses the problem. Using source materials, it first defines eating disorders and
explains why they are such series illnesses, then moves on to describe a study done about womens "body dissatisfaction." It reveals that most studies done of womens attitudes about
their weight and bodies have been done on young women; this study is one of the first that draws its sample from a range of women ages 20-65. The
findings of the study, which are described in detail, reveal that womens "body dissatisfaction" tends to remain constant across the lifespan; that is, women of all ages express dissatisfaction with
their bodies. However, the study also reveals that this concern with appearance does not diminish with age, which is not the result the researchers were expecting. The next portion
of the paper adds to what we know by discussing some of the reasons why middle-aged women are now being increasingly diagnosed with eating disorders. The paper concludes by
