can then use this to analyse the company. In looking at this we will look at past performance to gain an insight to any potentially relevant patterns, but it should
always be remembered that past performance is not in indicator of future performance. Eastman Kodak is a well known company within the photographic and imaging market. Ales in 2002
were down 3.0% on 2001. However, the latest quarter is showing a quarter on quarter improvement with an increase of 2.8% (Morning Star, 2003).
The company has had a mixed history when compared to its industry, sometimes performing better and sometimes well below. If we look at the 2003 figures we can see
there is a drop well below the industry averages in some areas. The gross profit margin shows a poor performance. is expressed as a percentage. This is the level of
revenue that remains when all of the direct costs for producing the goods or services are deducted form the revenue. This indicates the level at which direct costs account take
up revenue. The current gross profit margin is 39.4% (Morning Star, 2003), this compares to the industry average of 50.4% (MSM Money, 2003). The company is showing a slight increase
in 2001 where this was 34.5% (Morning Star, 2003), however, the five year average is still slightly below the industry average at 46.8% with the industry average at 49.3%.
