from different regions of the world are different, especially in terms of how they think. The Eastern and Western worlds are two very different realms wherein the cultures have originated
from very different peoples with very different thought patterns. The East, on one hand, is generally comprised of people who are far more concerned with the whole of their society
and with the notion of calm. In the Western world we are more often than not presented with people who are individualistic and people who feel that many situations need
a winner. In examining how the East and the West think differently the following paper primarily relies on Richard Nisbetts work "The Geography of Thought." The paper examines how the
two are different and discusses the differences from different perspectives. Eastern and Western Thinking In Nisbetts book we are first presented with the fact that in Western and
Eastern thought the history of differences goes way back into ancient times. In Western thought we are given the notions and ideals of the great Greek philosophers. These are the
individuals that have shaped Western thought and as such they are the thinkers who have essentially created the method in which Western people think, and are taught to think. In
Eastern thought the teachings have originated from Tao thought and from ancient prophets more than philosophers. Nisbett (2004) indicates that "the Greeks, more than any other ancient peoples, and
in fact more than most people on the planet today, had a remarkable sense of personal agency-the sense that they were in charge of their own lives and free to
