relationship to China. The following paper examines the history and current conditions of East Turkistan. East Turkistan "East Turkistan, also known as
the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China, lies in the heart of Asia" (Uyghur American Association (UAA) [1]). The size of East Turkistan is 4 times that of the state
of California (Uyghur American Association (UAA) [1]). This land is the home of Turkic speaking people known as the Uyghurs as well as other native peoples of the region (Uyghur
American Association (UAA) [1]). It is land wherein most of the people are Muslim (Uyghur American Association (UAA) [1]). Their region is located beyond the Great Wall of China, and
yet these people are not considered Chinese but rather Central Asian Turks (Uyghur American Association (UAA) [1]). They date back, as a culture,
perhaps 4000 years and were a people that were linked with the Silk Road which played a crucial role in the exchange of ideas and goods through various cultures (Uyghur
