a study that looks at speech production issues of children with cleft palate. Overall, the article is satisfying, but there are a few points that may be made in respect to how the authors provide the information. First, the article begins abruptly and after one sentence suggesting that there are patterns of misarticulation in children with cleft palate, the authors give examples. In essence, the article begins too quickly and addresses the subject matter immediately without an appropriate context. The introduction is appropriate but it lacks background information. Although it is not expected that extensive material be included at the outset, certainly a few observations about the relevance of the topic should be included. After that, the authors carefully craft an argument and do refer to other theorists a great deal. The logic provided, as the authors go on to explore a rationale for the study, is solid. Towards the end of the introduction, a list of questions are included. It is good to provide the reader with information about the issue being queried, but the there is a lack of a conclusion to the introduction, after the provision of the list. A more concrete, conclusive observation would provide a nice transition to the Methodology section, which is next. In the Methods section, there are several subsections: Subjects, Data Collection, Data Analysis, and Reliability. This section is very well organized and provides a great deal of information. Specific statistical information is cited and all of the data is wholly relevant. There is little superfluous information. Interestingly, while this is a strong point for the Methods section, the Introduction lacks character and conviction and is rather mundane.
