human development. This is a vast and complex subject that includes everything from physical development to personality development. These professionals do not need to know every single theory about human
development but they do need to be acquainted with at least several theories about different aspects of the process of development. All theorists recognize and stress the importance of
early child development. It is during these early years that personalities, values, opinions, intelligence and other aspects of humans are established. Most theorists in personality development, for instance, argue that
if the young child has problems, are not nurtured, are not cared for and exposed to different environments, the child will have mental health issues as an adult. Both Freud
and Erikson, for example, state that a child can become stuck in an early stage that will lead to an inability to function appropriately as an adult or an inability
to trust, etc. The age range selected for this paper is two through five years old. These are major growth years during which time, the child faces many different
challenges. They have either just finished or are in the process of being toilet-trained during this time. They learn language so they can communicate more easily. They are still very
dependent on caregivers. And, they will be attending preschool and then, kindergarten, which places them in different environments, interacting with more people. The human service professional must know what is
appropriate to expect at each age level or they will not know if the child is being appropriate for their age or not. As an horrific example, if a young
