whole process started goes back approximately 10,000 years to the early peoples of southwestern Asia. As the grassy plains began to slowly erode, the remaining fertile land had to
be shared by both humans and wild hoofed animals, forcing territorial boundaries to be eliminated. As time passed, the people learned how to subdue the animals inherent characteristics and
found them easy to herd; as a result, it wasnt long until captive breeding developed domestic strains. These valuable Asian beasts - cattle, sheep, pigs, horses and goats -
were then and still are now considered to be the most important and widely distributed domestic animals known in the world (Mohr, 1993).
Relatives of the modern horse have been found to date as far back as 60 million years. At that time, it is believed that horses were a source of
food, as shown by drawings and sculptures of that period. When people realized that the lively and sure-footed animal would be more beneficial not only as a hunting tool
but also as a means of transportation, it was then that man began to herd the horse and, thereby, come to depend greatly upon its varied uses (Mohr, 1993).
Another viable theory for the reasons why and how man ultimately developed herds stems from the practice of rescuing stray or injured animals in
the wild. It is thought that these animals stayed with the humans, slowly enabling herds to develop. No matter what theory is considered more readily acceptable than another,
it is certain that many different regions of the globe contributed to notion of herd development. Indochina was successful with the ox, chicken, zebu, water buffalo and Asian elephant.
