has always been about the delivery of such educational ideas, how the curriculum should be constructed, and how it would best be received by the students. Forum theater utilizes drama
as a way to integrate the students and immerse them for a time in a fiction situation where various roles become apparent. Sometimes the situations are purposely left open ended
so as to facilitate discussion, while other situations are allowed to be acted through and the problem solved. Underlying principles and theoretical ideas are discussed in the first of
three parts of Forum Theater. In this case, the concept was that of harassment and perception of a threat. It became evident that many people do not understand that their
behavior, body language, and language are threatening in certain situations and are perceived differently depending on gender, and sometimes by ethnicity. In class certain types of harassment were discussed.
Many of the centered around that of a sexual nature, such as men hitting on women in different situations. But, what seemed to occur to me was the fact that
harassment can take on more subtle forms depending on the gender of the person, and even the ethnicity. Consider, of course, someone who is part of a religious organization who
requires that the face be covered in public. Then, consider that in order to get a drivers license one is required to uncover ones face which is against ones personal
belief system. The choice comes down to making a decision for ones faith, and thus losing ones ability to drive, or compromising ones belief system in order to have the
