Unemployment is also rife, having risen to well above 10.9%. As Germany and France attempt to shore up other shaky economies, concerns continue to grow about what will happen if
nothing gets solved. This is why Steven Hills book "Europes Promise: Why the European Way is the Best Hope in an Insecure
Age" might cause the casual reader to scratch his or her head and wonder if the author is talking about the same Europe that is being reported in todays news.
In his book, Hill tends to introduce, in a rather condescending style of writing, precisely what is "right" with Europe and, by
the same token, what is "wrong" with the United States. Rather than pointing out some positives of the European model and then indicating the downsides inherent in this model, Hill
proceeds to tell the reader that Europe is an absolutely brilliant place to live and work because business is better there, the economy is better there, the governments are more
understanding, families are better treated and so on. The main problem I have with this book isnt that he doesnt introduce some good thoughts into the discussion. The main problem
