single database that can be accessed and the integration of the systems to use that data. However, Bather (2008) notes that where ERP is implemented it will often only penetrate
a limited amount of the organization, typically 15% - 20%. The way it is implemented often sees the process limited and failing to extend beyond the shop floor into the
back office. The concept of the extended ERP implementation looks at creating increased connections taking ERP to the next level. This means looking to the back of office processes, linking
the systems up with other systems such as CRM and HRM applications. However, extended ERP has to be consicered as more than just the IT system, there also has to
be a change in the mindset where data is seen as universal rather than its use associated with only specific departments that have domain over it. Increasing the way
that the different processes are aligned can increase value in the way that the IT systems are used in the decision making process. The decision making process is dependant on
two main components, the first is the input data and the second is the transformational process by which the output is transformed into the output, this may include the analysis
techniques and is the way that the decisions are made. The better the input data the greater the potential for better decision making, increasing the scope of the system will
