In considering a supply chain that takes international suppliers into account, its a good idea to explore the benefits of enterprise resource planning, and how it applies to supply chain
management. Lets first examine some definitions. Supply chain management, or SCM, is the movement of goods along the supply chain from their beginnings
as raw materials to their completion as the finished product in the market place (Wailgum, 2008). SCMs five basic components are planning (the strategy), sourcing (finding suppliers and delivery methods),
making or manufacturing (the product and it packaging), delivering (getting the product to market) and a returns policy (taking back excess, or defective, goods) (Wailgum, 2008).
Meanwhile, enterprise resource planning, or ERP as its called, involves a combination of a companys information systems, which bundles a variety of company functions together, while
linking the company to suppliers and customers at the same time (Enterprise Resource Planning, 2010). The area that is most relevant for our purposes is that of linking suppliers and
