the ad campaign "Youve come a long way, baby." The gist behind the campaign was basically that, thanks to womens rights, women now had an equal voice (and deserved their
own cigarette, but thats not pertinent to the paper). This equal voice, as was insinuated, carried over to the workplace because at the time, of course, women were entering the
workforce in droves. Some 30 years later, however, there are still subtle forms of discrimination and inequality in the workplace - and
this isnt necessarily just against women. Anyone who isnt a white male is likely to suffer some form of inequality at some point in their careers, whether it be an
equal pay for equal work issue, a question of an ability to do a job, or even outright harassment based on race, creed or color.
Susan Gluck Mezey, author of the 2003 book Elusive Equality: Womens Rights, Public Policy and the Law, has pointed out that despite all the gains made by
women in the workplace, achieving equality of rights continues to be elusive, no matter how hard they try (Behuniak). Though Mezey talks about all aspects of womens rights - education,
constitutional parity and so forth - the author ends up spending a great deal of time working through the equality in the workplace issue, and she comes up with some
pretty dismal information. For one thing, she notes that there continues to be pay inequities between gender, despite passage of the 1973
