of the future, the Earth is faced with the dilemma of Global security. One child will possess the military genius to accomplish the task. His name is Ender Wiggins. Enders confusion about brute strength versus empathy come into sharp focus when he must make his way in the world, confronted by his own worst fears and tormented by bullies. Many have stated that Enders Game shows a world where bullies triumph, but one must look at the underlying themes and surrounding metaphors to realize that the ultimate message is not that of a hostile world where only the horrific survive, but rather it is a world where the one individual who can tell the difference between strength and leadership, is the one destined to lead. At first blush one might be tempted to view the violence and the violent philosophies of some of the characters as a comment about only the strong surviving. For example, Peter, Enders older brother, is terribly cruel. Peter has told Ender, repeatedly, that the only way to survive is to be more cruel than the next person. This might lead one to believe that this is a world where the bullies triumph. Peter might be scum, but Peter had been right, always right; the power to cause pain is the only power that matters, the power to kill and destroy, because if you cant kill you are always subject to those who can, and nothing, or no one will ever save you(Card 1985).
