might be negligent, discrimination because of age, color, gender, age or even lifestyle is forbidden, by law, in any workplace situation. When
that discrimination involves being laid off, the situation gets a little trickier. Lets take the following scenario. Don Evans was a long-time
employee with Artco Corporation. Evans had joined the company right out of college, starting out as a stockroom clerk. During His 30 years with the company, Evans made his way
up the corporate hierarchy, being promoted, until he became the manager of the companys logistics department. Evans, in his early 50s, planned to retire at age 60, which was something
he didnt exactly keep a secret from his bosses. The company didnt have a mandatory retirement policy, though Evans was the oldest employee on staff.
About a week after his 53rd birthday, Evans was called into his boss office. His boss (who was about 15 years younger than he was), praised Evans
for his company loyalty and long history. However, the boss noted, the company was undergoing some cutbacks and were asking people if they wanted to take an early retirement buyout
package. Evans shook his head, explaining he wanted to stay until his 60th birthday. At that time his wife would retired, the kids out of school, and they could enjoy
