safety tends to be an afterthought. Its not that employers are insensitive to employee well-being. Its just that most policies tend to be reactive, rather than proactive. Companies dont take
a good, hard look at their employee safety protocols until someone reports a violation to OSHA or, as well see in this paper, a crisis management situation like a hurricane
occurs. In this paper, well attempt to examine employee safety from a human resources point of view. Well discuss federal regulations, then
examine two companies that have gone above and beyond the regulations to look after their employees. HR and Employee Safety
Most health and safety manuals will list three reasons for managing employee safety: First, its the law; second, there are financial benefits and third, its the right thing to do

last several decades. While the physical environment certainly can contribute to workplace injuries, human behavior within that environment also plays a role
(Ford and Tetrick, 2008). Risky behavior, signal detection failures and proactive safety behaviors can help change the environment enough to prevent a lot of safety mishaps (Ford and Tetrick, 2008).
