the power to change a lot of things; but while technological advances are being made, the people making them very rarely understand or know that what theyre doing is likely
to change a lot of things. The emerging technologies we used in this paper were the J2ME and broadband technologies. The first,
a Java programming language for devices with limited hardware resources, hasnt yet broken out against its rival WAP. But with next-generation mobile phones and other hand-held devices, this particular technology
could likely come into its own fairly soon. The opposite is true for the broadband technologies, which have changed everything from the
way we work, to the way we shop and communicate, to the way we interact with people. Still, when this technology was introduced in the 1990s, it was done so
for a competitive purpose. This is the interesting thing about technology. It is "emergent" at one point, and then it continues changing
and morphing. Introduction If you mention the word "technology," what might come to mind is computers. Computers are definitely a form
of technology. But technology is more than computers. The basic definition of technology is "the application of science, especially to industrial or commercial objectives" (Technology, 2009). Another definition of technology
is the use of a scientific method and/or material to "achieve a commercial or industrial objective" (Technology, 2009). The things the definitions
