The only possible exception for facilities in which top-secret data was, or in which expensive equipment -- such as computers -- were located. But for the most part, security was fairly simple because crime was fairly simple. Things have changed however. Corporate crimes run the gamut from embezzlement to computer hacking -- involving criminals that are not kept out with a simple lock and key. As a result, security systems have had to change. The good news is that banks to technology, newer and better security systems are being produced. This paper will compare and contrast to those technologies -- electronic access and biometrics. The paper will outline uses for both and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both. At the end, well determine which is the most useful in terms of ideal and efficient security. Overall, companies these days tend to demand more and more value from less hardware -- and hardware that is less expensive (Gips, 1998). Integration also continues to be a major focus -- experts note that customers want products that can be integrated seamlessly with technology and infrastructure they already have (Gips, 1998). However, much like the computer platforms of approximately a decade ago, many of these systems simply dont talk to one another nor can they be quart native with one another.
