say, effective instructors exhibit many positive characteristics such as outstanding preparation, emphasis on conceptual understanding and stating objectives for each class session (Eble, 1971). In the area of instructor-group interaction,
however, effective characteristics include encouraging discussion among the class and inviting students to share knowledge and experiences (Eble, 1971. The reason
why these two professional characteristics are important is because classes (and students, for that matter) arent static. The wise instructor understands that he/she can learn as much from students as
he/she teaches. This instructor comes away from each class session learning something new (whether it be about the student or topic at hand).
The wise instructor also knows when to encourage class participation and when he/she needs to take over the educational process. But classrooms in which everyone participates are fun and
interesting. These are always the classes that are closed before any other. This is because fun and interest tend to stimulate learning more than dull, dry facts.
But its not all about professional demeanor. Also important are personal behaviors. Some personal behaviors that effective instructors show include enthusiasm, availability and a sense
of humor (Sheffield, 1974). Lets examine these. Enthusiasm is a given - if someone is enthusiastic about a topic, the people
