In her article "Ready for Recession: Handle With Care: Part 2 of 2," Jessica Marquez paints an interesting "other side" of the recessionary coin. Namely, that one
companys laid-off workers is another companys potential hire. The article ran in April 2008 and focused on the unfortunate Wachovia -
the one thats being bought out by Wells Fargo. In this article, it stated that Wachovia is hoping to use the economic downturn and resulting layoffs, which is hitting much
of the competition, as the opportunity to hire qualified, trained people. Though Wachovias situation ended up somewhat disastrous from six months
ago, the trend is still in place, which the still-surviving companies, in an effort to continue surviving, are looking at laid-off people as potential hires.
On the one hand, the employer ends up with key talent from a company that may not have been as effective in managing its workforce. But companies
also nee to take care, as "poaching" from competitors during a recession can be dangerous (Marquez, 2008). For one thing, the employer needs to figure out if someone is willing
to leave one firm to join another in the middle of a recession might also leave if the second firm ends up in a down cycle (Marquez, 2008). Its also
