success there are several consideration. The first was the way in which eBay gained and then leveraged a first mover advantage. They were, in the west, the first online auction
site. First mover advantages is a form of competitive advantage and with the use of an easy to remember web address (URL) there was also an advantage that helped potential
users remember the use of the site. The first mover advantage can be key to any business; if the association of the brand name and the product or service
can be established as the default provider then the association is one that creates a form of differentiation that creates a barrier to other businesses. For eBay the early entrance
into the market and ability for the name to become well known was helped by both the marketing and the business model. The initial idea behind eBay was simple;
the founder wanted a medium which could be used to make swaps for collectables. The business model of the portal bringing together those who had goods to sell and those
who wanted to buy goods meant that the only resources eBay had to have was the technology to support the sale of the goods, there was no stock needed and
in the early days the payments was arranged between the buyer and the seller privately. The only requirement was the technology which has also been developed over time in order
to make listings easily searchable. Unlike retail business there was no need for large levels of working capital and there were also no issues concerning logistics. The model was
