be around 62 billion today (ask.yahoo.com, 2007). While it is extremely difficult to obtain or calculate the actual number of e-mails sent during any given time period, e.g., daily,
annually, one thing that is known is that only the number phone calls exceeds the number of e-mails sent in the world (ask.yahoo.com, 2007). The hypothesis is: There are
too many e-mails sent each day and this writer believes the proliferation of e-mail messages harms productivity and interferes with personal lives. In fact, e-mail is a double-edged sword because
on the one hand, it is a very useful communication channel but on the other hand, it consumers too much of our time. Furthermore, e-mail is becoming a very risky
tool in terms of privacy. If you use e-mail, how many messages are in your mailboxes right now? How long have some of them been there? How many messages
do you receive, on average, per day? How much of it is substantive? These are the questions we must all ask ourselves both in terms of our personal lives and
in terms of our professional lives if we want to assess the good and the bad about e-mail. IABC conducted a survey in the last two months of 2006
asking respondents if they received too much e-mail (Editors, 2007). They received 1,718 responses, 47 percent of whom said they received "too much e-mail and text messages" and 15 percent
