The term e-government indicates the way in which government may also take advantage of the same benefits seen in e-commerce and apply them to government operations. The term e-government, also
sometimes referred to as eGovernment is short for electronic government. There are many definition of e-government but one of the most valuable is that used on the wikkipedia web
site quoting Newar (2005) which states; "E-Government refers to the use by the general government (including the public sector) of electronic technology (such as Internet, intranet, extranet, databases, decision support
systems, surveillance systems and wireless computing) that have the ability to transform relations within the general government (bodies) and between the general government and citizens and businesses so as to
better deliver its services and improve its efficiency" An alterative definition may be found at the Bertelsmann Foundation which takes a broader approach
with a stakeholder rather than an operational view, this is also a simpler definition which defines it as ; "electronic information-based services for citizens (e-administration) with reinforcement of participatory
elements (e-democracy) to achieve objectives of balanced e-government"(Bertelsmann Foundation, 2001 quoted Grant and Chau, 2005) One criticism often levels at government is the time it takes for anything to
