As a side note, there was a huge winter storm on that last weekend before Christmas. Online sales were driven by an increase in the numbers of people who shop Online (Editors 2010). While overall sales increased, there was a decrease in the average amount of money spent by each customer (Editors 2010). This reflected the poor economy. The unstable economy was the reason for shoppers to spend less than in prior years (Editors 2010). Further, about 22 percent of shoppers reported they did not finish their shopping because they wanted to find a better price for the items or because they just could not afford to spend any more money (Editors 2010). Even with the increases for Online shopping, it represents just 42 percent of all shoppers (Editors 2010). The other 68 percent did their shopping in regular retail stores (Editors 2010). Even so, the numbers for Black Friday, a huge shopping day in normal years, were disappointing to retailers Editors 2009). Retailers were especially aggressive last year with slashed prices to entice customers but it did not work (Editors 2009). There was a 13 percent increase in Online sales in 2008 (Editors 2009). Online sales now account for 6 percent of all sales in the retail sector (Editors 2009). Online sales are increasing across the world.
