e-commerce are also complex. Much of the regulation that was originally applied to e-commerce had been adapted from statutes, regulation and case law formed before e-commerce had even been conceived. Subsequent changes have allowed for the development, taking into account the way in which commerce has changed, but these rules are still developing and catching up with the technology (Manolopoulos, 2003). Further to this is also the global nature the internet and e-commerce, with trade and communication taking place in a virtual world, geographical barriers are removed meaning business takes place over larger distances with greater ease. E-commerce may be seen as a driver and a result of the increased emphasis on globalisation. However, like any other form of business, e-commerce requires regulation. However, with trade taking place globally it may be argued that to develop rules at lower levels may be supportive of good practice, but can end up powerless to act in many cases due to problems with jurisdiction and clashes in expected standards. There are any examples of how counties courts may be powerless to act leaving potential actions in limbo or plaintiffs impotent. For example, many UK companies will deal with other many companies both inside and outside the EU. Ma y of these transactions and any disputes arising from, or related to e-commerce many find a remedy through the European Court of Justice or the International courts. However with e-commerce the range of potential disputes increases and is complicated by the lack of international standards focused on e-commerce (Manolopoulos, 2003).
