e-commerce we can make a comparison. We will assume that the business we are examining is a small outlet, with a home page that has an off the peg

and the search facility is efficient, allowing for browsing by category as well as searches with key words or item numbers that correlate with a catalogue. First we need
to define e-commerce. E-commerce is defined by the American Heritage Dictionary (2000), as "Commerce that is transacted electronically, as over the Internet". This indicates that e-commerce is much wider than
simply the internet, but that this is a prime example. There are more lengthy definition but for the purposes of this paper the definition is suitable We can examine
both this company which we will call Acme1, and Amazon with the sue of an e-commerce model. Huff and Wade (1999) have developed an outline for the requirements of a
e-commerce business and the way they need to satisfy customer needs, for both B2B and B2C purchases. They outline six requirements that need to be present, the six
requirements are seen as essential in order to retain the competitive advantage, as such it is assumed that the company already has a competitive advantage. For Amazon.co.uk there has been
the first mover advantage that has been well utilised and as we will see as we move though the six requirements, there has been the development of other competitive advantages.
