Anyone who doubts that can look at phenomenal success of Amazon.com. Founded by Jeff Bezos in his garage in 1994, Amazon.com is a model for e-commerce ventures (Hoovers, 2001). In
April 2001, Amazon.com was so big, Bezos was able to make a deal with Borders.com to take over all their service operations (Reid, 2001). The company also acquired exclusive rights
to sell books through such sites as Yahoo, AOL, Prodigy, Alta Vista and Netscape, among others (Doggett et al, 2001). Their strongest profit-makers are books, CDs and videos (Reid, 2001).
Amazon.com has sold to 29 million people in 160 countries (Amazon.com, Company Information, 2001). The biggest Online item is books, in 2002, 43 percent of Online shoppers in the U.S.
purchased books in 2002 (shop.org, n.d.). CDs account for 29 percent of all Online purchases (shop.org, n.d.). Sales tabulated on "Black Friday" revealed that 41 percent of all Online "purchases
were for books, CDs, DVDs, videos or video games" (shop.org, n.d.). Zolzer reported that approximately 40 percent of Online users actually purchase something Online (n.d.). About 40 percent of others
