Almost everyone knows the origins of the Internet -- originally launched as a military communications system to be used in a time of war, the Internet gradually involved into an
electronic network between scientists and academicians. It was only during the early 1990s that the Internet became a viable way in which to market and sell goods and services.
While the Internet concept is relatively new, the concept of e-commerce is not. If we are to use the definition of
e-commerce as the purchase and sales of goods and services through electronic means, that has been going on for more than a century. What makes it so new however
is that e-commerce has become synonymous with cyberspace and the Internet. And because the Internet is still such a relatively new forum by which to trade goods and services,
it still has not quite caught on as much internationally as it has in the United States. There are many reasons why the Internet is still not yet a
worldwide phenomenon -- despite the fact that one essential part of the Net has been called the World Wide Web. The purpose
of this paper is to present research that will discuss these issues. There are many issues about e-commerce and the Internet that are general to most nations, and these
include taxation of products and services and concerns over security. Next, we will narrow our focus to e-commerce trends in certain countries and determine if the presence of e-commerce
is as strong in these countries as it is in the United States. We will also touched on future trends and issues pertaining to e-commerce, and conclude the paper
