wouldnt recommend e-books to others for a variety of reasons, such as the tedium of finding a chapter, moving from page to page or glare on the page (College Students
Give e-Books Mixed Reviews, 2003). But that survey took place more than eight years ago. Since that time, there have been more
advances in e-book technology, better readers on which to download text and generally a more willingness, especially among college students, to use e-books in lieu of text. This begs the
question, therefore of whether college textbooks be sold and distributed via electronic format instead of through print. The answer here is "yes," and for a variety of reasons.
The main issue, and reason, is cost. Textbooks are terribly expensive. Even getting them used doesnt guarantee a whole lot of savings. What happens is
the student picks up the textbook at the beginning of the semester, complains about the price (which is typically high), and hopes for some kind of refund when selling the
book back to the store. But it rarely happens this way; the student is luck to receive 10% of what he or she paid for the original. However, e-textbooks are
half the price of regular, printed textbooks, and there has been a move for colleges to provide free e-textbooks (What does it Cost to Purchase Electronic and Audio Books, 2008).
