a patient enters, lies down on the couch and tells his or her troubles to a man who merely grunts once in awhile. This stereotype is based on early Freudian theory where it was suggested that the patient not view the possible facial reactions of the therapist, but psychotherapeutic models have come along way since that time. Indeed, not only are clients sitting upright, but therapy does not take nearly so long. When visiting modern therapists, progress is expected almost from the first session. The goal is to create change and to do that rather quickly. However, there is not just one way to implement therapy. There are many psychotherapeutic models today and further, not only do licensed psychologists use them, but many are implemented by family therapists and social workers. There are a variety of degreed individuals who are able to administer many of these things. One such model is called time limited dynamic psychotherapy and it is like what it sounds. Unlike earlier models where there are a few sessions of introductions and even sessions to discuss why one is discontinuing therapy, this model is designed to be short. Hans Strupp and Hanna Levenson are some theorists who embrace this type of therapy and have added to the body of literature on it. This type of therapy is, according to authors, designed due to the fact that many patients would discontinue psychotherapy rather early and that insurance was not paying for a lot of sessions. A new world, where people are skeptical of psychotherapists and all doctors who they feel are in business for the money, has rendered quick fixes more attractive.
