the Great Depression, and a time when agricultural and farming mistakes were made painfully obvious. Through mismanagement and unfavorable, yet traditional, practices in agriculture and farming the land had essentially
been drained dry and the result was, to put it simply, dust, not soil, that blew across much of the country and left many people homeless and hungry. In Donald
Worsters book "Dust Bowl: The Southern Plains in the 1930s," the author examines various aspects and realities associated with the Dust Bowl. The following paper analyzes this work.
"Dust Bowl" by Worster In the beginning of the book Worster essentially lays out much of his focus regarding the book. It is not simply a history book involving what
happened, but a book that illustrates the ultimately destructive nature of the people in the United States as it involved the land and their general destruction of the land. He
indicates that even today civilization cannot really exist in the Plains, nor does it want to, because it is assumed barren and desolate. However, he also illustrates how it is
a crucial place needed for the survival of the nation if not the world when it comes to food production. He states, "When the white men came to the plains,
they talked expansively of busting and breaking the land. And that is exactly what they did" (Worster, 2004; 4). He also illustrates how it is considered to be one
of the three most devastating human actions against the environment since history began. He notes the destruction of forests in China in 3000 B.C. and another problem concerning desolation of
