delinquent behavior in youths aged 12 to 17 years ("Alcohol Use"). Research studies verify that young drinkers are far more at risk than non-users of alcohol to become involved in
behavior that can be labeled delinquent. The NSDUH surveyed youth in this age bracket on their drinking behavior. This study classified binge drinking as imbibing five or more alcoholic beverages
on the same occasion, that is, either one-after-the-other or within the course of several hours ("Alcohol Use"). Heavy alcohol consumption was considered to be having five or more alcoholic beverages
either on the same occasion or on five or more days that occurred within the past 30 days ("Alcohol Use"). The survey also asked youths between 12 and 17
the frequency with which they had engaged in certain delinquent behaviors. In 2003, over 650,000 youth (2.6 percent) reported engaging in heavy alcohol use. A significant correlation was determined to
exist between the incidence of delinquent behavior and an associated incidence of heavy alcohol consumption ("Alcohol Use"). A NSDUH report that investigated the use of alcohol among pregnant women
and recent mothers determined that, in general, the rate of alcohol consumption for women, aged 15 to 44, was lower among pregnant women (11.6 percent) than for recent mothers (42.1
percent) and also that recent mothers, in turn exhibited a lower rate than did women who were not pregnant and not recent mothers ("Alcohol Use...Pregnant"). Furthermore, the NSDUH reports that
