be because there are more and more dangerous drugs on the streets today and thus more problems associated with the drugs. The following paper looks at information to ascertain if
drug related crime has increased or decreased in recent years. The paper also examines the most problematic drugs for law enforcement , responses to drug related crimes and drug use,
and an explanation of why legalizing drugs is not a good idea. Drug Related Crimes In relationship to drug related crimes
information seems to suggest that there has been a decrease although it may be a true statistic that is difficult to discern, especially in light of the fact that most
sources will note that the War on Drugs has not proved successful. In seeing how drug related crime has declined one article, in relationship to Berkeley and the Oakland area,
notes that, "Berkeley police Officer Andrew Frankel said drug activity in Berkeley has continued to decrease significantly since a crack-cocaine epidemic hit the city in the late 80s and 90s"
(Trott; Brooks, 2008). He noted that the reason for their particular decrease is due to education, increased patrols and "initiatives like the Just Say No campaign" (Trott; Brooks, 2008).
Another source indicates that, "Although the number of drug-related homicides has been decreasing in recent years, drugs still remain one of the main
factors leading to the total number of all homicides" (White House Drug Policy, 2000). This particular author also notes that it is difficult to really interpret information about drug related
