measure that applies court-supervised drug treatment state-wide. Drug court, or court ordered and supervised drug treatment, has become an large-scale effort to reduce drug convictions and drug recidivism, but
the true impact of this kind of measure has not been adequately assessed (Burns and Peyrot, 2010). Though the theory behind this process is that it reduces incarceration costs
while also reducing recidivism, there is little concrete data that shows a direct correlation between the drug court programming and reductions in drug use that results in criminal recidivism among
non-violent offenders. This classical experiment will consider the issue and relate a method for assessing the benefits of these programs. Research Question and Hypothesis The research question
for this study is: Do drug court participants refrain from drug use after program participation when compared to individuals convicted and incarcerated for their drug crimes?
The hypothesis for this study is: Participants in drug court refrain from drug use after program participation more often than individuals released after
conviction and incarceration for their drug crimes. The independent variable for this study is participation in drug court (as opposed to those incarcerated without rehabilitation) and the dependent variable
is drug use after program completion (or release from incarceration). Method The research design to be used in this project causal-comparative study and primarily quantitative by nature,
and will focus on the comparison of a subject and control group population in order to determine the impacts of the independent variable against traditional treatment (incarceration).
Sampling and Group Assignment The sampling for project will be based on convenience sampling, because the subjects must meet a very specific criterion. The subjects will be selected
