Drug addiction is one of societys most concerning problems. Whether the addiction is to a prescription drug or a street drug, the problems that arise
can be quite similar. Not surprisingly, communities have launched one program after another to try and prevent drug abuse and help addicts come clean of their addictions. Among
the more successful of the preventative programs is D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education). D.A.R.E. programs are found in communities all over the nation and have impressive histories.
D.A.R.E. was first launched in Los Angeles in 1983 after statistics revealed that in 1981 sixty-six percent of kids high school age or younger had used

Whatever the motivating reasons behind drug use, societal problems can result when that use gets out of hand. D.A.R.E. introduces children to those potentials and helps them form
decision making skills by putting them in a variety of play acting roles that simulate situations and circumstances they might encounter in real life (D.A.R.E., 2009).
