of the United States. It was a case that many thought would put an end to slavery arguments. But, it did not solve anything and only added to arguments that
would one day lead to the Civil War in the United States. The following paper summarizes the Dred Scott case and then presents a tutorial to writing a journal entry
from an individual who lived during Dred Scotts time. Summary During the time of Dred Scott the Northern states and the Southern states did not agree on many
things. One thing they did not agree on was slavery. Many people in the North wanted to free all blacks and most people in the South wanted slavery. They wanted
slavery because it was a way for them to have workers for free. If they could have slaves, and feed them little and pay them nothing, they could make a
great deal of money on their crops. The Dred Scott case involved a man from the North who hated slavery. He had bought Dred Scott, a black slave, so
that he could try to go to court and make a difference for all black slaves. He thought that if he could take Dred Scotts situation to court they would
make Dred free and then many other blacks could go free because of a the new law that would be made. His case argued that Dred, although he was a
slave in Missouri (a state in the South) he had been living in Wisconsin which was a Northern state and a free state. It seems that no one agreed
with his argument and it was shown that Wisconsin was not a free state. It was also found that slaves were property and property did not have any rights. A
