Barrack Obama learns much about his family by going down this road, but he also learns much about race. Obama (2004) does a great deal of research in Kenya. His father died suddenly in an accident so in order to understand this mans dreams, he must uncover the man whose DNA he possess. The senior Obama was also divorced from his mother, so Barrack Obama was essentially raised by his mother and a stepfather. Still, the search for his roots would take him to Africa and reveal much about the positive nature of his own family. The chapter on Kenya includes lively banter between Barack Obama and others as he uncovers information about his dad. Barack Obama would find out not only information about his father specifically, but also about the many other relatives he has in the region. Obama would get a sense of family there. The book does suggest a connection with race in America. In fact, Barack Obamas story is quite relevant in regard to race in the nation. When Obama won the presidency, there were tears running done the cheeks of many Americans, and even those who voted against him. They were touched by the fact that an African American man could make it to that level in a nation that was torn by racism during so many decades. Barack Obamas breaking the mold has done a great deal for race relations in general. But what does Dreams from My Father say about the significance of race in America?
