Dream of a Witches Sabbath, is a lively piece that integrates images of the trivial and excitable. Though the theme of the "Witches Sabbath" might suggest a dark or
boding tonal element, the focus of this work relates a different perspective on this theme. In fact, this movement might be interpreted as symbolic of a dance, even the
dance of a tormented individual, struggling with the conflict between personal exuberance and lost love. This interpretation can be understood through the following depiction: * Berlioz initiates the
idee fixe with the use of a clarinet, which appears to suggest a kind of dance movement, integrating timpani and brevity in order to maintain some question as to the
purpose of the dance. * This provides a basis for the introduction of the beloved and this can represent the unrequited. * The use of bells in the background produce
a religious element that can be distinguished either as a factor demonstrating doom or a sense of the lost love of the marital church. * The brightness of
the musical content during subsequent parts maintains the sense of the dance, but there is a relatively gloominess to this part that is related to the contextualization of the fugue
and the meaning behind this segment. * There are musical elements that further contextualize the dance, creating a quick moving segment utilizing violins and violas which create a darkness
in the sound quality that underscores the contrast between exuberance and loss. * The climax of the piece, which Berlioz created to appear as the triumph of the witches,
