Las Meninas. But, upon close examination, of the works as well as the men who created them, there are some very powerful foundations which support the works and thus relate
the works to one another. Both were Spanish individuals and both were artists who sought to bring light to humanity, rather than focus their attention solely on religion and God.
The following paper examines how the two relate to one another in this, and other, perspectives. Don Quixote and Velasquez Las Meninas
It is important to note that first and foremost, the viewer/reader must realize that much of what can relate the two works together is primarily seen, or found, through
research and through knowing something of the two works. The relationship the two works share is not necessarily evident by just reading the book or viewing the painting. But, at
the same time there is a sort of subtle connection between the two without great knowledge of the works. For example, the painting is one that is very deep and
rich, like the novel by Cervantes. It possesses many romantic elements through the warmth of the colors and the richness of the setting, like Cervantes novel.
There is also another element which one could utilize to connect the two. This comes with the setting of the painting. It appears, one could say,
that the young girls are tending to this one special little girl who is all dressed up and seems to be important. One could associate this with the famed Desdemona
