seems unhappy with real life. Don Quixote lives, it seems, in his imagination believing that things are not what they seem. He believes, for example, that windmills are giants to
be fought. He is a man of honor, or so he envisions, and yet a man who, at the end of the story, seems to indicate he knew what was
reality all along. The following paper examines the character of Don Quixote and the author Miguel de Cervantes, illustrating that they are very different for Don is a dreamer immersed
in fantasy while Miguel knew the real world very well. Don Quixote and Miguel de Cervantes As mentioned, Don is a
man who is very much immersed in his fantasy world, the world he perhaps wishes was true. Also as mentioned, he indicates in the end that he knew what the
real world was all along. Such information suggests that he may not be insane but rather just playing a game. Either way he was a man who, at the very
least, pretended that windmills were giants and people who gave you their oath were not lying. But, this was not who Cervantes is for Cervantes life is filled with reality.
In looking at who Don is the reader can see quite a bit of his chivalrous and romantic ideals in the following: "So then, his armour being furbished, his morion
turned into a helmet, his hack christened, and he himself confirmed, he came to the conclusion that nothing more was needed now but to look out for a lady to
be in love with; for a knight-errant without love was like a tree without leaves or fruit, or a body without a soul" (de Cervantes Volume I Chapter I).
