that the criminal justice system be empathetic to the problem, deal with victims fairly and promptly, and effectively provide for their safety and protection. This Code makes several provisions
to insure this will be the case. Among the more noteworthy of these provisions are the Codes requirements that law enforcement officers,judges, court personnel, prosecutors, and tribal
employees and even attorneys that work with cases involving domestic abuse on the reservation pursue and complete a specific number of hours of training every year in the issues
surrounding that abuse and its proper address. Requiring that professionals dealing with domestic abuse receive continuing education in the issues surrounding that abuse ever year is one
of the best steps that could have been taken to accomplish the purposes of insuring that the criminal justice system deals with domestic abuse in the best way possible.
Education dispels stereotypes, misconceptions and other problems that might make professionals less capable of dealing with the very concerning issues surrounding domestic abuse. Education drills home the fact that
domestic violence is not just a family issue, it is a societal one. If we are to resolve that issue we must be willing to implement changes on a
societal level. Education also drills home the fact that there is consistent correlation between any behaviors, attitudes, demographics, or personalities which can be used to predict that one individual
