Booth, Van Hasselt, and Vecchi (2011) are just a few of the growing collection of scholars that identify school shootings and other abhorrent acts of violence at schools that have plagued the nation since the last decade of the twentieth century as domestic terrorism. These authors add to the growing collection of facts that criminalists are using to produce a working profile of those that perpetrate these acts. While these profiles are characterized by certain generalities like the perpetrators are typically white males between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, they are also characterized by more specific factors. Family dynamics, for example, are particularly important. When a parent is highly critical, for example, a child can be negatively affected to the point they become violent. A fascination with guns and violent video games are two more key factors as is the tendency to exhibit "behavior leakage", the keeping of diaries, writing of poems or stories or even verbally boasting of their fantasies and feelings in regard to hurting other people.
