Trying to discern the most effective means of rearing a child so that they know right from wrong and, indeed, so
that ultimately they will become productive adults is a more difficult task than what might be presumed by the inexperienced. All children misbehave at some point in their lives.
Most misbehave on a daily basis. How we deal with that misbehavior, however, can be either destructive in terms of reaching the final goal of shaping a productive
human being or constructive. What is considered acceptable and unacceptable forms of child discipline not only varies by culture but has changed considerably over time even within cultures.
What was considered acceptable forms of punishment just a few decades ago is now frowned on by most as being counterproductive in the long run. Spanking is an excellent
example. The intent of this paper is to consider spanking and its value, or lack thereof, in child rearing. The question of who is more likely to spank will
be explored as will the likely outcome of that spanking. The first thing we must consider when broaching the subject of spanking is
