a point when he talked about the evils of capitalism, greed and alienation. For Marx, capitalism exploits workers. Marx (2005) explains that the worker experiences a loss of reality
as he or she is objectified and also becomes the object of a kind of slave labor. In the end, the worker becomes alienated. This is what ensues when the
capitalists own the means of production. Although it is true that Marx was against capitalism, he never rejected the model entirely. He just preferred his model of communism (Marx
& Engels, 1998). In fact, Marx saw capitalism as necessary to an extent. ONeill (2007) remarks: "I ...find myself shaking my head in violent disagreement whenever I hear so-called radicals
put the boot into capitalism. They seem to loathe the very parts of the capitalist system that Marx quite liked." Marx did not completely discard capitalism as a positive entity.
He merely saw it as a stepping stone to better things. Under the paradigm of historical materialism, a theory that assumes progress in human history, it claims that particular
parts of history will ensue and ultimately culminate in a state of communism (McLeish, 1993). Hence, after capitalism and socialism will be communism, but capitalism do sow the seeds of
this progression. Capitalism is what is necessary to create wealth. In fact, the communist models implemented in the world failed arguably because the dictators did not take the steps to
