come the growth of the IT department, the Chief Information Officer and other related systems. There is some thinking that because computers are now so commonplace, information systems and information
technology (IS/IT) no longer provide any great advantage to the companies that use them. This paper explores the literature to evaluate the suggestion that IS/IT no longer provides a competitive
advantage. Discussion The research was done using the Info Trac OneFile database, which seems to provide the best access to journals and peer-refereed publications. The search parameters were "INFORMATION SYSTEMS
+INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY +COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE" which yielded 17 results; the second search was "INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY +COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE" which yielded 42. Any wider search terms would have brought back thousands of hits
