whites than blacks and more than twice than Hispanics (1,761; 558; 832, respectively); burglary reflected 14,453 (whites), 4,472 (blacks), 6,855 (Hispanics); and motor vehicle theft was nearly six thousand for
whites, almost three thousand for blacks and just over twenty-five hundred for Hispanics. Clearly, these statistics show no signs of discrimination in one sense, inasmuch as Caucasians committed the

the Mexican border. If discrimination exists where Hispanics are concerned, it has more to do with preponderance of this particular ethnic population than with any intentional prejudice. When discrimination
is part of the equation, however, it is often the residual influence of media perpetuation. The media and racial bias has been a long-term problem; bigotry and prejudice have
had a healthy existence in society for a very long time. The hardship that media racial bias has caused the Hispanic population in Texas is immense and far-reaching.
Bratschi (1995) contends the ultimate factor in the overwhelming racial bias within mass media is the "lack of non-whites" (p. PG) in decision-making positions; this absence of equality has a
"tremendous impact" (p. PG) on its white and non-white audience. Basically, the bias is not a representation of the media as a whole, but rather of the individual journalist
