The paper then looks at different companies that may be seen as moving in that direction to assess if the status of learning organization has, or can ever be claimed. It is human nature to believe in what we want to believe in rather than what can or cannot be proven. The concept of the learning organisation may be such an idea. Just like the Loch Ness Monster the learning organisation may gain from the search and not from the realisation of the final goal. The inability to find or prove the existence of the Loch Ness Monster has not prevented the search, just as the inability to pinpoint a organisation that embodies all of the characteristics of a learning organisation has not prevented the continual attempts to create that organisation. 2. The Recognisable Characteristics of the Learning Organisation. If we look at the concepts of the learning organisation, as originally put forward by Peter Senge we can start to consider why the concept is idealistic rather than one that can be attained.
