is a concept without a moral conscious. Corporate executives are responsible to the owners of their individual corporations. The individual owners of the particular corporation are focused on turning a profit or supplying a social need and simply staying within the fundamental rules of society. 2). The corporate executive is the agent of the individuals who own the corporation. Any actions taken by the corporate executive under his own initiative such as charitable acts to his church, his city, his county, or other similar entity are social responsibilities undertaken as a principle and not as an agent. The corporate executive is expending his own time, energy and money and performing social responsibilities of an individual not of a business. 3). It is the responsibility of the government in the course of political processes to impose taxes and expenditures to be used for such social purposes as controlling pollution or training the unemployed. Therefore, this responsibility does not rest with the corporate executive. There is no way that the corporate executive can affect the social conditions without alienating either the stockholders, the customers, or the employees. 4). The fact that many corporations tend to provide amenities to a community or make charitable donations in an effort to improve their status in the community and or to refrain from paying taxes, does not constitute social responsibility. These types of actions are simply done as a matter of self-interest. 5). Unanimity is the political principle which underlies the market mechanism. Conformity is the political principle which underlies the political mechanism. The idea of social responsibility would extend the concept of political mechanism to every human activity.
