a permanent holy bond between a man and a woman. While there are always exceptions, divorce was seldom regarded as an option in ending this bond. Once a
couple married, they stayed married through thick and thin and, just as the Christian marital vows attest, for better and for worse. Today, however, that is no longer the
case. Divorce is at an all time high in our society. The consequences are often severe. It is not just a woman and a man that is
affected by divorce. It is society itself. There is no one reason for the increase in our nations divorce rate. There
are many. One of the primary causes, however, is our declining societal mores. Concepts like sacred vows just do not hold much importance is a society where sex
is the main focus in our movies, our music, and even our choice in clothing. We have moved away from our religious teachings and embraced the cultural void that
the media seems to be so intent on force feeding us. The chasm that once characterized the separation between wrong and right no longer exists, or at the very least
has shrank almost to the point of non-existence. We simply do not hold ourselves accountable to the same rules upon which civilized society was cemented. Unfortunately, divorce is just
one of the many impacts of this transition. Another important cause of the increase in divorce rates revolves around the fact that the
social institution which our society refers to as marriage, the commitment of one individual to another to work together as one in domestic pursuits such as raising children, is no
