A 3 page research paper that summarizes and analyzes 3 studies dealing with divorce. Divorce has become commonplace in Western societies. The rationale behind divorce is that it is better for all parties involved, parents and children rather than having parents continue a dysfunctional relationship. This literature review briefly looks at three studies that examined the long-term effects of divorce. The results of these studies call into question the rationale that everyone involved benefits from divorce, focusing specifically on the effects of divorce and separation on mothers and their children. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

dysfunctional relationship. The following literature review briefly looks at three studies that examined the long-term effects of divorce. The results of these studies call into question the rationale that everyone
involved benefits from divorce, focusing specifically on the effects of divorce and separation on mothers and their children. Using as their sample a sub-group of separated black and white
mothers from the National Survey of Families and Households, McKenry and McKelvey (2003) followed this group of women over a period of five years. The results of this study found
a statistically relevant correlation between income and remarriage status (r=.33, p<.0001), as well as for perceived economic well-being (r=.26, p<.0001) but only for the white mothers (McKenry and McKelvey, 2003).
